Porsche recently released a video that detailed what its employees have found to be the rarest Porsche models ever made. Counting down from fifth rarest to first rarest, the video is a great watch not just because it’s informative but for a closer look at these rare gems.
Dieter Landenberger, manager of Porsche’s Historical Archives, goes for a walk through an enormous garage full of old Porsche models covered in sheets and uncovers the five most unique models one by one.
The fifth most uncommon Porsche is the 911 Turbo S (964), created in 1992. Only 86 were made, despite the fact that a brand new paint color was created especially for it.
Next is the 1981 Porsche 924 Carrera GTS, which was designed for private racing. Only 50 of these were ever built, 49 of which were red and the very first of which was white.
Coming in at no. 3 is the Porsche 911 GT, which was designed for the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Only 21 were built, which was partly due to its high sales price of over a million dollars in the early 1990s.
The second rarest Porsche ever is the 1984 911 SC/RS, of which 20 models were made for rally sport. And finally, #1 is the Porsche America Roadster, of which only 16 were built.
