Your windshield wiper blades are imperative for complete visibility when the rain starts coming down in springtime. After a long winter of fending off snow and ice, it may very well be time to swap in a new set of blades. If you’ve noticed signs of aging and want to get up-to-date with a new pair of windshield wipers, here’s what you need to do to replace them.
Find the Right Blades
Every vehicle has specifically sized wiper blades, which means that you have to know what your vehicle requires before making a purchase. This information can be found in your vehicle owner’s manual. You can order blades directly from the manufacturer’s online store, or you can bring your vehicle into Gossett VW Porsche and get the proper pair.
Out with the Old
To remove the old wiper blades, you must first pull the wipers up so that they’re perpendicular with the windshield. Push in the tab where the wiper arm meets the blade, then pull the blade down towards the windshield to remove it.
While you are changing the blades, it’s a good idea to place a towel down on the windshield. That way, if one of the wiper arms snaps down, the windshield will be protected from impact damage.
In with the New
Slide the new wiper blade onto the wiper arm just as you slid the old one off, starting at the base and pulling it upward into position until you hear it snap into place. Gently lower the blades onto the windshield and test to see that they are working properly.
Replacing wiper blades is an easy process, and it’s one that we’re happy to perform for you when you bring your vehicle in for service at Gossett VW Porsche. If you’re due for an appointment and feel like you’re due for new windshield wipers, make sure that you make a note of it when scheduling and we’ll give you what you need.
