As if the upcoming release of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan and 2018 Volkswagen Atlas—an all-new model—wasn’t enough cause for excitement, VW just announced that these SUVs will come with a new Volkswagen warranty. It’s an exciting prospect to say the least, as this new warranty is better than most competitor’s offers.
Pick up the latest Tiguan or all-new Atlas and enjoy a 6-year, 72,000-mile warranty. This is “bumper to bumper” coverage, meaning it covers engine and transmission repairs as well as issues arising with the all-wheel drive system.
To make the deal a whole lot sweeter, the new Volkswagen warranty is also transferable. With that, VW has increased the resale value for both of these SUVs.
Warranties may not be flashy, but they matter. Over time, they amount to a lowered cost of ownership. Calculate that into the asking price and you’ll know that you are paying less than you are actually paying.
While for now, the new Volkswagen warranty is only being offered for the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan and 2018 Volkswagen Atlas, word is that it may spread across the lineup if it fares well.

While many automakers in the US market have been taking advantage of the trend toward SUVs and crossovers, Volkswagen’s SUV lineup has been surprisingly lacking. The one nameplate currently under the brand’s belt is the Tiguan. However, we saw hints of a new midsize crossover from VW at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, and now the vehicle is finally seeing the light of day under the name “Atlas.”
The Volkswagen Atlas has been hinted at for awhile, with VW CEO Hinrich Woebecken revealing earlier in 2016 that the crossover would have a simple, more easy-to-pronounce name for the American market. With its sharp, two-syllable name, “Atlas” appears to have fulfilled that promise.
This new midsize crossover Volkswagen is clearly designed to appeal to American consumers, and the strategic release of the Atlas comes at a time when VW sales are lower than usual. If priced competitively, the Volkswagen Atlas could help the brand pull ahead in the market once again and invite a whole new demographic of young families looking for stylish but practical vehicles.
