2017 Motor Porsche 911- Trend Car of the Year Finalist

Porsche 911 Named 2017 Motor Trend Car of the Year Finalist

2017 Motor Porsche 911- Trend Car of the Year FinalistThe Porsche 911 just keeps getting better and better—and it looks like Motor Trend magazine agrees. This popular automotive magazine recently announced that the Porsche 911 is a 2017 Motor Trend Car of the Year finalist. This is thanks to its well-rounded performance, iconic style, and unbeatable ride.

While discussing why the editors at Motor Tr22end chose this sports car as a finalist, the magazine stated, “Porsche keeps polishing its jewel. Just when you think the engineers in Weissach couldn’t make one of the world’s definitive sports cars any better, they roll out a 911 that does just that.”

Porsche 911 Features

One of the features that received the most complimentary attention from the magazine was the 911’s chassis. No matter the speed—even on base-level wheels—this chassis managed to impress the editors with its communicative and adjustable nature. Because of this, the magazine has declared the 911.2 “the nicest most user-friendly in 911 history.”

Along with its superior ride and performance, the Porsche 911 manages to impress with its style. Despite the fact that a 911 redesign is typically constrained due to its iconic style cues, the 911.2 managed to refresh this legendary sports car to make it better proportioned, turning it into a modern and beautiful machine.

You may wonder why the Porsche 911 is a 2017 Motor Trend Car of the Year finalist. Come see this renowned sports car at Gossett VW Porsche.

Meet Atlas: New Midsize Crossover Volkswagen Revealed

While many automakers in the US market have been taking advantage of the trend toward SUVs and crossovers, Volkswagen’s SUV lineup has been surprisingly lacking. The one nameplate currently under the brand’s belt is the Tiguan. However, we saw hints of a new midsize crossover from VW at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, and now the vehicle is finally seeing the light of day under the name “Atlas.”

The Volkswagen Atlas has been hinted at for awhile, with VW CEO Hinrich Woebecken revealing earlier in 2016 that the crossover would have a simple, more easy-to-pronounce name for the American market. With its sharp, two-syllable name, “Atlas” appears to have fulfilled that promise.

Information on pricing has not yet been unveiled, but production will begin sometime late this year, following by its sales launch in early 2017.

This new midsize crossover Volkswagen is clearly designed to appeal to American consumers, and the strategic release of the Atlas comes at a time when VW sales are lower than usual. If priced competitively, the Volkswagen Atlas could help the brand pull ahead in the market once again and invite a whole new demographic of young families looking for stylish but practical vehicles.

Porsche Station Wagon On the Horizon

It’s not often luxury automakers known for making fast cars break their own mold, but Porsche is doing just that – again. The luxury automaker revealed an SUV nearly 15 years ago, but now the maker of the legendary 911 is looking to up the ante. The new Porsche station wagon is set to release next year.

The station wagon is just the latest model in the sports car manufacturer’s utility-driven portfolio. The Porsche Cayenne entered the market back in 2002 and made waves as a luxury SUV.

The new station wagon is based on the Panamera four-door coupe and is scheduled for its official debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show next March. It would compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake, another model that’s designed to appeal to drivers who desire the thrill of the road but want a practical vehicle as well.

The Porsche Panamera released in 2009 and more than 150,000 units have been sold since then. While station wagons have been on the decline in the United States, European drivers have driven the body style to popularity.

2016 Porsche Panamera

Porsche revealed a hybrid version of the Panamera at the Paris Motor Show just last month. That model features an electric range of up to 30 miles and can reach 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds.

Gossett Attends New 2018 Panamera Launch in Germany

Our very own Al Gossett – President and CEO of Gossett Motor Cars – recently attended Porsche’s launch of the new 2018 Panamera over in Leipzig, Germany.

“Porsche Leipzig is more than a production facility. It’s also a place where you can experience the fascinating appeal of the sports car in every facet. Welcome to an exciting world where the spirit of Porsche really comes alive” said Gossett. The Panamera shares the production facility with the Cayenne and Macan.

The tagline for the new Panamera is “Courage Changes Everything.” The model originally burst on to the scene in 2009, but a lot has changed since then. The new 2018 Panamera will feature a much sportier look and feel than in previous model years. It offers Porsche Connect system capability, Apply CarPlay, and plenty other high tech safety and entertainment features.

The 4S trim uses a 2.9-liter, twin-turbo, V-6 that provides 440 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. The Turbo trim has a 4.0-liter, twin turbo, V-8 that boasts a whopping 550 horsepower and 567 pound-feet of torque. Fuel efficiency has also improved. The 2.9 liter V-6 is capable of 29.03 mph which is an 11% improvement from the 2017 edition. It also can reach 62 mph in just 4.4 seconds.

What Does a Car’s Torque Mean?

Gas PedalMost drivers know that horsepower is a good standard to judge how fast a car is but what about torque? What does a car’s torque mean? That’s a question many drivers interested in performance vehicles find themselves asking and the answer can get rather complicated. Fortunately, we at Gossett VW Porsche have a simplified answer of what a car’s torque actually means.

Put simply, power is how fast something can reach a certain point while torque is the ability to do work. That remains true in modern cars. Horsepower determines how fast a car can reach a certain speed while torque is how fast the car can actually accelerate.

The torque listed on a vehicle specification page is how much torque the engine can produce. That isn’t necessarily how much torque reaches the wheels. Either way, higher torque means faster acceleration.

Larger engines produce more torque due to the amount of air flowing into the engine. That air is combined with fuel and compressed in a combustion chamber to produce horsepower and torque. Trucks are a perfect example of how torque works. Since most trucks are designed to tow, they need more torque to accelerate while pulling heavy loads. Thanks to their larger engines, trucks are capable of gaining speed even though they may be pulling thousands of pounds.

2017 VW Golf Alltrack Preview

2017 VW Golf

Current Volkswagen Golf at Gossett VW Porsche

The VW Golf Alltrack has never been sold in the United States before, but after Volkswagen’s most recent press release, that’s about to change! The VW Golf Alltrack is based on the popular Golf SportWagen and has been a top choice for drivers who desire a ride with crisp handling. The Golf Alltrack has been available in Europe for years, but this fall, the newest model will hit United States shores!

The 2017 VW Golf Alltrack will feature 4MOTION all-wheel drive and offers all the capability of an all-terrain vehicle without the rough exterior. Off-Road Mode goes hand-in-hand with the new all-wheel drive system and makes this model more capable than ever before.

A 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that pumps out 170 hp and 199 lb-ft of torque powers the off-road-capable model. Drivers wanting to control gear shifting should wait until the six-speed manual transmission releases following the launch of the Golf Alltrack.

While the exterior looks entirely different from the Golf SportWagen, the interior is a different story. The layout is similar but the Golf Alltrack sees premium materials, like leatherette seating surfaces, and aluminum pedal covers plus Alltrack branding.

We at Gossett VW Porsche can’t wait for the arrival of the 2017 VW Golf Alltrack!
