The Nürburgring Nordschleife is one of the largest and most well-known race circuits in the world, and it’s the place where any performance vehicle worth its salt goes to prove its mettle. It was at this celebrated track where the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo made itself a legend, smashing a Nürburgring record that had been uncontested for 35 years.
Driver Timo Bernhard piloted the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in just 5 minutes and 19.55 seconds, obliterating the previous record of 6:11.13 minutes. Bernhard is no stranger to the track, having won the Nürburgring 24-hours five times, but he said after his record-setting performance that the new 919 Hybrid Evo let him experience the track in a way he never had before.
“This is a great moment for me and for the entire team — the 919 program’s icing on the cake,” Bernhard said. “The Evo was perfectly prepared, and I have done my best on this lap. Thanks to the aerodynamic downforce, at sections I never imagined you can stay on full throttle.”
The 919 Hybrid Evo is the latest on-track testament to Porsche’s unchallenged expertise of all things performance. To experience Porsche at a street-legal (but no less impressive) level, stop into Gossett VW Porsche.
