It’s not often luxury automakers known for making fast cars break their own mold, but Porsche is doing just that – again. The luxury automaker revealed an SUV nearly 15 years ago, but now the maker of the legendary 911 is looking to up the ante. The new Porsche station wagon is set to release next year.
The station wagon is just the latest model in the sports car manufacturer’s utility-driven portfolio. The Porsche Cayenne entered the market back in 2002 and made waves as a luxury SUV.
The new station wagon is based on the Panamera four-door coupe and is scheduled for its official debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show next March. It would compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake, another model that’s designed to appeal to drivers who desire the thrill of the road but want a practical vehicle as well.
The Porsche Panamera released in 2009 and more than 150,000 units have been sold since then. While station wagons have been on the decline in the United States, European drivers have driven the body style to popularity.
Porsche revealed a hybrid version of the Panamera at the Paris Motor Show just last month. That model features an electric range of up to 30 miles and can reach 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds.
Here at Gossett VW Porsche, we can’t wait for the arrival of the new Porsche station wagon!
