How to Increase the Resale Value of Your Vehicle

When it comes time to sell your vehicle, the first thing you should do is put yourself in the place of the buyer. What do you see? You might see a vehicle that appears as if it has not been taken care of.

Now while you know the truth, a buyer doesn’t have that luxury. They have to go on what they see! This is why cleaning up your vehicle can increase its resale value. Here’s how:

headlight# 1 – Your headlight lenses can grow murky and hazy over time, giving your vehicle an overly broken-in appearance. Very lightly sand and then polish this haze away.

# 2 – Detail your interior. If you don’t want to do it, it pays to pay a professional. A potential buyer may find a filthy interior uninviting and generally off-putting. If you choose to do it yourself, break out the toothbrush, Q-tips, and all of your odd-shaped vacuum attachments! Getting the filth and dirt out of those nooks and crannies is what makes the difference.

# 3 – Do the easy fixes, as CNN Money suggests. Things like a burned-out taillight or a damaged muffler are going to affect resale value more than what they cost to repair.

# 4 – Make her shine! Nothing says “This vehicle has been properly taken care of” like a nice, shiny finish. Wash it thoroughly and give it a good wax job. You should even consider using a clay bar to remove surface stains. Buff out superficial scratches.

As you apply these tips on how to increase the resale value of your vehicle, always ask yourself, “What would I pay for this vehicle?” Let that thought guide your work.
